  • 3 bags strong black tea (Assam or Darjeeling)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated
  • 4 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 2 cups whole milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or sugar, to taste)
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a small pot over medium heat, toast the crushed cardamom pods, grated ginger, and cinnamon sticks for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Pour in the water and bring to a gentle boil. Add the black tea bags and steep for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove the tea bags and lower the heat. Stir in the milk and sweeten with honey or sugar to taste.
  4. Let the mixture simmer gently for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Strain the chai into mugs using a fine mesh strainer and remove the cinnamon sticks. Enjoy!
