  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (100g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder (40g)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (90g) (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and both sugars together until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Stir in the eggs one at a time until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold this mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. If desired, fold in chocolate chips before pouring the batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top shows slight cracking but remains moist when tested with a toothpick.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan before slicing into squares.
