- In another bowl, beat butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients and milk into the butter mixture until just combined.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
- For the custard filling, warm milk and sugar in a saucepan; whisk egg yolks with cornstarch separately. Combine mixtures over low heat until thickened.
