  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups shredded whole milk mozzarella cheese
  • ½ lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 cup sliced bell peppers and onions

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water and yeast until foamy. Add olive oil and salt; then gradually incorporate flour to form a soft dough.
  2. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
  3. Meanwhile, combine crushed tomatoes with oregano and basil in a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for about 20 minutes.
  4. Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a circle to fit your pie pan.
  5. Layer mozzarella on the bottom of the pan, followed by meat, sautéed veggies, and sauce.
  6. Bake at 425°F for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
