  • 1 cup sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 cup chopped toasted pecans
  • 1 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or cooking spray and dust with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  7. For frosting, combine egg yolks, brown sugar, and milk in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened; stir in coconut flakes and pecans.
  8. Once cakes are cool, spread frosting between layers and on top of the cake.
