This indulgent dish is perfect for gatherings or a cozy night in, inviting everyone to dig in and enjoy a burst of deliciousness in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large russet potatoes (about 1 lb)
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup salsa or pico de gallo
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 avocado, sliced or ½ cup guacamole
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips resembling French fries.
  2. Fry the Potatoes: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot over medium-high heat (about 350°F). Fry the potato strips in batches until golden brown (5-7 minutes). Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt.
  3. Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, whisk lime juice, salt, pepper, garlic powder, cumin, and chili powder. Coat the flank steak in this marinade and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Sear the Steak: Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the marinated steak for about 4-5 minutes per side until desired doneness is reached (130°F for medium-rare). Let rest before slicing thinly against the grain.
  5. Melt the Cheese: Layer shredded cheese over hot fries in an oven-safe dish. Broil on high for 1-2 minutes until bubbly.
  6. Assemble: Top cheesy fries with sliced carne asada, drizzle sour cream, add salsa or pico de gallo, and garnish with cilantro and avocado or guacamole.
