Description

Salisbury steak is a nostalgic comfort food that combines juicy beef patties with rich, savory onion gravy. Perfect for family dinners or entertaining guests, this dish is easy to prepare and packed with flavor. Whether served over creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice, it’s sure to warm your heart and satisfy your cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat)
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium sweet onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, half of the chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to avoid tough patties.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Shape the mixture into 4 patties and sear for about 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining chopped onion and sauté until translucent (about 5 minutes).
  4. Pour in beef broth while scraping up browned bits for added flavor. Stir in Worcestershire sauce; adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Return patties to the skillet, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Serve over mashed potatoes or rice with gravy poured generously on top.
