Description

Labneh is a creamy, tangy Middle Eastern yogurt cheese that can elevate any dish. Enjoy it as a dip for warm pita bread or fresh vegetables, or use it as a spread on sandwiches. This versatile ingredient not only tantalizes the taste buds but also adds an aesthetic charm to your table. With minimal preparation and a few key ingredients, labneh is perfect for gatherings or cozy family meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups plain whole milk yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (for drizzling)
  • Optional: Spices like za’atar or sumac to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the yogurt and salt; stir until smooth.
  2. Line a fine-mesh sieve with cheesecloth and place it over another bowl. Pour the yogurt mixture into the sieve.
  3. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 12 hours to drain.
  4. Once thickened, transfer labneh to a serving dish and smooth the surface.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with optional spices before serving.
