Instead of tossing your sourdough discard, create these easy-to-make rolls that will have everyone eagerly leaping out of bed to enjoy them.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 oz cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  2. Stir in sourdough discard and eggs until well mixed.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt; knead dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter in a bowl.
  6. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle, spread the filling evenly, and roll tightly into a log.
  7. Cut into about 12 equal pieces and place in a greased baking dish.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While cooling slightly, prepare the cream cheese frosting by mixing cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth.
